Where is the lake in the US

Lake Tahoe

Sapphire blue water: Lake Tahoe

Sapphire blue lake in the Sierra Nevada

Mark Twain thought the sapphire blue mountain lake was the most beautiful in the world. The "big water", which the name means in the Indian language, is located in the west of the snow-covered Sierra Nevada at an altitude of 1,899 meters. During the Ice Age, huge glaciers carved it out, making it one of the deepest lakes in the USA. Hiking, swimming, mountain biking are possible, as well as climbing and all kinds of fun sports. The most beautiful pictures of the lake and the surrounding mountain wilderness can be made from the water, preferably on a boat trip across the lake.

Lake Tahoe View: Rubicon Trail

Rubicon Trail

Paradise hike on Lake Tahoe

The trail leads on the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe from Rubicon Point to Emerald Point. Again and again there are magnificent views over the lake. Again and again rocks tower high, stimulating the imagination. In any case, they are called Frog Rock, Sleeping Lady or Gladiator. (3 hours, 10.2 kilometers, up: 130 meters, from: 210 meters)

Unsettled Shore: Sugar Pine Point State Park

Sugar Pine Point State Park

Unsettled shoreline on Lake Tahoe

The park protects a two-kilometer stretch of shore on the west side of Lake Tahoe from urban sprawl. You can explore the shore on walking and hiking trails and jump into the clear but cold water. In the hinterland, boulders protrude from a Nordic forest of pines, pines, poplars and juniper. The Hellman-Ehrlichman Mansion, the magnificent summer residence of a wealthy businessman, built in 1903, is enthroned at a lookout point.
