Coffee can be harmful to me

Like olive oil or linseed oil, coffee contains valuable antioxidants - including flavonoids. These protect the body from harmful metabolic products that can contribute to cardiovascular diseases, among other things. Coffee actually makes a contribution to our health. The popular drink also promotes our cognitive abilities. According to current scientific standards, coffee even reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

New study: THIS coffee is the healthiest

A current study by the Krembil Research Institute in Toronto, Canada, has now also deciphered the secret of what exactly coffee helps our health so much. The good news: It's not the caffeine!

In fact, decaffeinated coffee is just as good for our health as regular coffee. Rather, the key to the riddle lies in the roast. This is how Dr. Donald Wearver and his colleagues found out that the stronger and longer the coffee beans are roasted, the more phenylindanes are produced. These substances are responsible for strengthening our thinking ability in the brain. So, when in doubt, always use the heavily roasted coffee powder. Well then cheers!

The same applies to coffee: the dose makes the poison

Even if coffee consumption has positive effects: it shouldn't be more than five cups of coffee a day. The caffeine is not necessarily harmful, but it can lead to nervous restlessness and insomnia.

Coffee is not directly addictive, but it sometimes sets in a certain tolerance and habituation, so that we feel like we have to drink more and more coffee to stay awake. If you think you are drinking too much coffee, just take a few days off and then minimize your consumption to one or two cups a day. Remember: Coffee is a luxury item and not a thirst quencher like water. Usually it is enough to have a cup of coffee in the morning to wake up and in the afternoon to get over the day's low.
