Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was a German physicist who was also eloquent. He is considered one of the most important theoretical physicists in the history of science. In 1915 Einstein published the general theory of relativity. For his scientific contributions to theoretical physics, especially for the discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect, he received the Nobel Prize in 1921.

E = mc², no other formula from physics is as well known to the community as this one. The “E” in the equation stands for the rest energy and “m” describes the mass - both variables are proportional to each other. The “c” indicates the constant of the speed of light - that is, about 300,000,000 meters per second. In other words, the formula describes the equivalence of mass and energy. It was discovered by Albert Einstein as an essential part of his groundbreaking theory of relativity in 1905. This impetus not only had an impact on the relationship between energy and mass, it also revolutionized the idea of space and time. Albert Einstein, born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, is the son of Hermann (1847-1902) and Pauline Einstein (née Koch, 1858-1920) of a German-Jewish family. Just a year later, the Einsteins left Albert's birthplace to move to Munich. Previously working as an electrician, the father and his brother founded their own company that same year, while Einstein's mother took care of the household. His family belonged to the middle class, was adapted to society and, despite their religious origins, not strictly connected to Judaism. This also laid the foundation for Einstein's later development and way of thinking.

Einstein enjoyed a relatively unspectacular early childhood. However, from 1884 onwards, his parents made it possible for him to take private lessons in order to work up speech therapy weaknesses, so that one year later he could take part in the regular classes at the Catholic Petersschule. At the same time Einstein learned to play the violin and discovered his love for music, which from then on marked an important part of his life. In 1888 he switched to the Luitpold-Gymnasium, which he finished without a degree in order to emigrate to Italy with his parents. After almost a year Einstein left the family domicile on his own. He went to Switzerland to take his Abitur at the canton school in Aarau on the advice of the Rector of the Swiss Federal Polytechnic University of Zurich (today ETH Zurich). Because of this, he was able to start studying mathematics and physics at the Polytechnic in 1896.

Albert Einstein was enthusiastic about science at an early age, but only achieved mediocre performance in his studies. Characterized by frequent absences, he relied on notes from other fellow students - which stood in the way of both his career opportunities at the university and the development of his own theories. Nevertheless, he successfully passed his diploma examination in the summer of 1900 and was henceforth allowed to call himself a specialist in mathematics. Although Einstein was not given the desired assistant professorship at the Polytechnic because of his controversial thinking, the Swiss Patent Office in Bern granted him a permanent position following a recommendation from his brother after a short time as a tutor.

Einstein's probationary period at the Bern Patent Office began in December 1901. Around a year and a half later, he was promoted to third class technical expert. An activity that gave him a lot of time for his scientific work in the evenings and in his free time. During this time Albert founded the Olympia Academy, in which the members discussed scientific and philosophical topics in evening sessions. Einstein's miracle year: His so-called annus mirabilis in physics was the year 1905. Once fellow students, Albert Einstein and Mileva Marić married shortly after Einstein's father's death in January 1903 - against the will of both families. In a published letter he commented on the alleged root of the war and justified it with the aggressive nature of the male being. When Einstein turned away from Germany, he feared that the German Reich might develop an atomic bomb with the help of his popular formula. In a letter to US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the scientist drew attention to these circumstances and advised the government to invest in nuclear research. As a result, the world's first atomic bomb was detonated on July 16, 1945 on a test site in New Mexico, and its explosive power surprised even optimists. However, Einstein was not involved in the development.

With a simple “oh woe” in response to the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima, Einstein's inner reaction can only be guessed at. He was aware that he was instrumental in the development of such a weapon. In addition, his pacifist attitude would forbid him to use any (armed) violence. Furthermore, the Germans could not achieve any success in their attempts, which is why the developments in this area on the part of America would not have been justified in any case.

Albert Einstein died on April 18, 1955 at the age of 76 from the consequences of an aneurysm that had been discovered in a surgical operation on the abdomen in the late 1940s.
