What is a perinatological ultrasound

Pregnancy - an exciting time begins

Have you been diagnosed with pregnancy?

We look forward to seeing you and, as a practice specializing in obstetrics (focus on special obstetrics and perinatology), we will be happy to accompany you during this special time.

You will be faced with a variety of changes, both physically and psychologically. So that you can fully concentrate on yourself and your child, you need a doctor and midwife by your side during this time.

The prenatal check-ups are carried out by us at regular intervals according to the specifications. These include in the 9th-12th Week of pregnancy as well as in the 19th-22nd Week of pregnancy and finally in the 29th-32nd Week of pregnancy an ultrasound scan.

A sugar load test is carried out between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy to rule out gestational diabetes.

At the end of the pregnancy, the examinations are carried out more closely. A heart sound analysis (CTG) of your child is also carried out here to document his or her well-being.

Adequate vaccination protection should be available during pregnancy.
We vaccinate all standard vaccinations recommended in Germany as booster vaccinations.
The annual flu vaccination is particularly advisable for pregnant women, as real flu is a very dangerous disease in this sensitive phase. Our vaccination recommendations correspond to the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission of the Robert Koch Institute (Stiko).

Exercise during pregnancy is almost a "must". Women who exercise a lot have significantly less to contend with pregnancy sickness, circulatory problems, excessive weight gain and lower back pain, so they have a much easier pregnancy. We would be happy to advise you on this!

For a long time, sex during pregnancy was considered dangerous for both mother and child. That this is not the case is now the doctrinal opinion, but this rumor persists in society. Talk to us about it!

The diet during pregnancy should be balanced and include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Meat and fish at regular intervals helps to prevent nutritional deficiencies from occurring in the first place. In addition to iodine and folic acid, the addition of an essential fatty acid (DHA) is recommended from the second trimester of pregnancy. We would be happy to explain to you which products you should avoid. Again, there are many myths and falsehoods that can make pregnancy more difficult. Ask us!

As part of the prenatal diagnosis, indications of childhood diseases and / or risks for you can be excluded at an early stage. In the event of risks, we can care for many pregnancies on an outpatient basis for a long time and thus avoid long-term inpatient processes, which represent a considerable burden for the expectant mother.
We are a member of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM), the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) and the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG) and are therefore qualified for these examinations in terms of both technical and equipment. As a referring practice, we also look after patients from several practices in the area in the event of risks.

In the case of high-risk pregnancies, we exclude the malformation as well as the child's heart ultrasound (fetal echocardiography). Corresponding indications must be available so that these examinations can be carried out at the expense of the statutory health insurance.

If there is a suspicion of growth retardation, so-called placental insufficiency, a child risk can be detected early by means of color Doppler and spectral Doppler sonography.

As part of prenatal care, we offer the following desired services for interested women (the costs for this are not covered by the statutory health insurance, so you have to pay yourself):

First trimester screening: In the 12-14 Week of pregnancy using ultrasound and additional laboratory parameters to see whether the risk of Down syndrome in your unborn child is reduced or perhaps even increased.
This test will identify 9 out of 10 children with Down syndrome.

If the risk is increased, we offer the prena test from Life Codexx. Even after an official statement, the prena test is not recommended as the sole examination, i.e. without a previous and conspicuous first trimester examination.
Alternatively, we carry out amniotic fluid examinations (16th to 17th week of pregnancy).

Additional ultrasounds offer insights into the development of your child and often calm the pregnant woman and promote the bond with your child.

3-D / 4-D sonography allows a three-dimensional representation of the child's face. With 3-D sonography, a somewhat more precise representation of the child's facial features is usually possible, with 4-D sonography, movements can also be shown, assuming facial expressions. The photos burned on CD are wonderful memories.

Additional laboratory diagnostics to exclude or check protection against the following infectious diseases can be recommended (expert opinion): toxoplasmosis and cytomegaly.

At the end of pregnancy, according to the recommendation of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics, it should be checked whether certain bacteria are present in the vagina and intestine, so-called B streptococci. These can lead to severe newborn blood poisoning.

We allow ourselves to charge a small processing fee for certificates for employers, insurances and certificates, although most employers pay this for their employees (but do not have to!).
