Betting websites are scams
Wetten.com test & experiences
Wetten.com is a relatively new German bookmaker that was founded in early 2017. The idea for this came from the former Betsson manager Daniel Bradtke, who launched the website with the intention of offering a high-quality sports betting brand that is specifically geared towards the German market.
The website is licensed in Malta and has got off to a flying start, not least because it's a site powered by the Gaming Innovation Group's iGamingCloud platform.
Unlike many of its competitors, Wetten.com started with no immediate intention of investing in poker and casinos, preferring to focus on providing an intuitive betting range to new German players looking for easy-to-understand, straightforward betting markets. However, they recently added a casino to their product list as well.
Their stated goal is to “create a product that is tailored to the needs of German sports fans - a product that is local, visually simple, modern and intuitive”.

Layout and design
As a fairly new bookmaker, Wetten.com has learned from the mistakes made by its opponents. They have done without the bells and whistles that have become the norm for many of their well-known competitors, but the site looks very neat and tidy.
Wetten.com focuses on a clear structure and does it well. The website has avoided the trap that many competitors have fallen into when they make their website unnecessarily complicated with fancy graphics and images and thereby scare off potential customers.
The basic layout is the same as most betting sites in that there are left and right sidebars with a main body covering the bets - a sight very familiar to the normal bettor. This is the industry standard for good reason - it works.
The left sidebar lists the sports available and the number of betting markets on offer - in both cases it is an easy-to-read structure. A single click on any of these sports opens another menu that lists the countries for which bets are offered for that sport, and then there is another sub-menu that lists the leagues and competitions. The final drill-down leads the player to the individual games and betting series.
Each game / event is listed with a date and start time, and on the front the menu navigation offers the bettor the basic three-way bet - win / lose / tie. The sheer amount of options, especially for the high profile competitions, is staggering, with some - such as the Bundesliga - offering up to 80 betting options for a single game.
These cover the entire range of bets, from the traditional handicap to the Asian handicap, over / undernumber, double chance, bets without a tie, precise result, total goals and many other special bets. If you are looking for a specific bet, it is very likely that it is there.
In addition to the betting information, there is a statistics register for each bet. One click takes you out of betting and to a new page provided by the statistics provider Betradar.com. It offers a whole range of data to help you with your bet, including current form indicators, current form guides, previous matches and goal statistics. In fact, no stone is left unturned when it comes to helping the betting partner in his decisions.
The main part of the homepage starts with the live events, the design being in line with traditional betting, but with additional data on the state of the game.
Below the Live Markets is a section that shows the “Betting Highlights”. It is set to upcoming soccer games by default, but cleverly there is a nifty horizontal menu that allows the customer to fill the page with betting options for other sports; the options correspond to the number of sports / entertainment events listed in the left sidebar.
Here, too, the options offered are presented in a subtle, well-organized style.
Sports markets & quotas
As already mentioned in the 'Layout & Design' section, the website has a large number of markets and different sports as well as a very comprehensive range of different betting options. In addition, as mentioned and as is to be expected, the site primarily addresses German, Austrian and Swiss betting enthusiasts and, for example, offers not only the Bundesliga and Bundesliga II, but also the sub-league, the regional league and the amateur league for German football.
But there is also a comprehensive range of bets for other sports that are less well known or rather played outside of Europe, such as cricket.
The website is also very much geared towards international sports, and tournaments such as world and European championships are highlighted in advance of and during the events.
Sports such as the NFL, golf, motorsports, tennis and basketball are also covered very well, with soccer typically leading the way in terms of the sheer number of markets available and the number of leagues offered worldwide.
In addition to traditional sports, there are also some betting offers in the area of esports, including Call of Duty, Dota 2 and League of Legends.
At Wetten.com, new customers can take advantage of a tempting three-element welcome bonus package:
Part one is a 100% deposit bonus up to € 100. The minimum deposit amount is € 10 and the bonus is a maximum of € 100. The total amount - deposit amount and bonus balance - must be placed on sports and live bets, with each bet with a minimum odds of 2.0 being placed at least five times within the first 30 days.
The second part is a risk free no deposit bet of € 10. It is paid out one month after the first deposit, provided it is at least 50 euros. The risk-free bet must be wagered three times with a minimum odds of 2.0 before a payout is possible.
Part three is also a risk-free bet with no deposit of 10 euros. The risk-free bet - worth 10 euros - is paid out two months after the first deposit, provided it is at least 50 euros.
Wetten.com has an ethical attitude towards gambling and, as an increasingly popular bookmaker, is aware of its social responsibility. All employees have been trained to “observe the gaming behavior of users in daily contact with customers so that they can recognize irregularities immediately and take action if necessary”. That they take this so seriously is to be welcomed, but also to be treated with caution, since this betting provider is of course also sales-oriented.
Customer contact is limited to the time between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. (CET), but the quality of the help and support offered is excellent and can be done via email or live chat, which can be accessed via the “Live- Chat ”at the bottom right of the homepage. On the negative side, there is no telephone support and the response times to e-mails are sometimes very long.
Mobile phone & tablet
Wetten.com offers a site optimized for mobile phones which is essentially a mini version of the desktop site adapted to the reduced screen size. It works for both iOS and Android and offers a very pleasant customer experience in terms of navigation and responsiveness. There are no proper Apple and Android apps available, but given the quality of the optimization, this is not a problem, apart from the inconvenience of having to use a browser.
Wetten.com offers the usual deposit options from instant transfer, Skrill, credit card to payments via giropay and Paysafecard. Payment via PayPal is unfortunately not possible. The structure of the fees is also somewhat questionable. For the deposit via Skrill and Neteller there are fees of 4%, for a payment via Paysafecard even 5%. All payment options are summarized in the following table.
|Credit card||Right away||No||10 - 20,000 euros|
|Bank Transfer||3-5 days||No||10 - 20,000 euros|
|Skrill||Right away||4%||10 - 25,000 euros|
|Instant bank transfer||Right away||No||20 - 2,500 euros|
|Entercash||Right away||No||10 - 10,000 euros|
|GiroPay||Right away||No||10 - 5,000 euros|
|EPS||Right away||No||10 - 5,000 euros|
|Paysafecard||Right away||5%||10 - 100 euros|
|Neteller||Right away||4%||10 - 15,000 euros|
In principle, the payouts at Wetten.com are reliable and smooth. However, a lot can be done better in terms of speed; the processing time can sometimes take up to four days. The only withdrawal option that is available is the transfer that was already selected when the deposit was made. If this is not possible, the classic bank transfer can be chosen as an alternative.
The minimum payout amount is 20 euros. The maximum limit is 20,000 euros via credit card or bank, 25,000 euros for Skrill and 15,000 euros for Neteller. However, it should be noted here that a withdrawal via Skrill and Neteller again entails a 4% fee. Before the first payment, the customer must have successfully passed a legitimacy check.
Advantages and disadvantages at a glance
- Attractive and very comprehensive range of bets
- Attractive bonus program
- Very structured, clear website
- German-speaking, expert online support
- TÜV seal of approval and EU license
- No telephone service hotline
- Partly high deposit and withdrawal fees
- Payment via PayPal is not possible
- Relatively slow payout
Conclusion and evaluation
The appearance of the betting company Wetten.com is convincing almost across the board. The betting offer is very extensive, the odds are in the common sector and the design of the homepage on the PC as well as on the smartphone and tablet is extremely successful. The bonus program is fair and attractive.
The still young betting provider definitely has to improve on the payout rate, which is relatively slow compared to its competitors. The high fees for Skrill and Neteller can also be revised again.
Based on the test certificate from TÜV Saarland and the EU license from the Malta Gaming Authority, the seriousness of the betting company Wetten.com can be verified in case of doubt.
