As of today, ideas for digital data-based applications for Mobility 4.0. be submitted. The two new funding calls focus on various current topics: data innovations to cope with the corona pandemic, innovative transport concepts, European cooperation and support for structural change in coal regions.

Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer:

With such complex challenges as the corona pandemic or climate change, we depend on one thing above all: data! The call for funding is therefore aimed at research and development projects that use data-driven innovations to help us master current crises and also prepare us as well as possible for future scenarios.

The eighth call for funding for funding line 2 of the mFUND is also directed at project proposals with European participation and thus builds on the networks created during the German EU Council Presidency. The focus of this thematic focus is on European answers and solutions for data innovations for digitization in mobility, especially in the area of mobility data spaces.
There is also a separate call for funding to strengthen the former coal mining areas.

Chafing:

Where coal used to be mined, data is now being extracted. On the one hand, we want to make the region attractive for companies with a digital background and, on the other hand, support the structural change itself with the help of data-driven projects.

The BMVI has been funding research and development projects with the mFUND program since 2016. The subject of "open data" is an important motivation in more than 300 mFUND projects.
In the first phase, 200 million euros were invested. The second phase of the program, which is now beginning, is anchored in the medium-term financial planning with 250 million euros. Projects can be funded with up to three million euros.
