The offer of the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai, which was founded in 1960, includes language courses, a cultural event program and a library.

The institute is the point of contact for anyone interested in contemporary art and culture from Germany as well as the German language. In our multimedia classrooms, in addition to learning the German language, great importance is attached to conveying an up-to-date image of Germany. Our German learners receive free access to a newly set up small video library and are invited to a variety of cultural events.

With a wide range of cultural events, the Goethe-Institut Chennai has been promoting continuous dialogue and cultural exchange between artists from Germany and India for over 50 years in order to convey German culture abroad. We work closely with our partners and experts at the local universities (Anna University, IIT Madras, etc.).
The cultural department organizes and supports numerous projects in the fields of film, new media, art, theater, dance, music, literature and architecture. The events take place in our auditorium and at the locations of our partners.
