What does a little tightening mean

Tightening of the corona measures : Bavaria announces exit restrictions

Due to the still too high number of new corona infections, Bavaria declares a disaster and is significantly tightening the measures. A general exit restriction should apply throughout Bavaria from Wednesday. Then people are only allowed to leave their own apartment for valid reasons. This includes, for example, going to school and a doctor or shopping for necessary things. This was announced by Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Sunday after a special cabinet meeting in Munich.

A night curfew should also apply to all cities and districts with an incidence of more than 200 new corona infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the fight against the corona pandemic, Bavaria will also prohibit the consumption of alcohol in the open air from Wednesday.

The contact restrictions should only be relaxed on Christmas days. From December 23 to 26, meetings beyond the two households with a maximum of ten people - from up to ten households - are permitted. The easing plans previously planned for New Year's Eve, however, have been overturned. This means that a maximum of five people from two households can meet at the turn of the year.

The slight lockdown stopped the exponential growth, but no longer. "Every four minutes in Germany someone dies of corona," said Söder. In Bavaria this is the case every 20 minutes.

Many clinics have since complained of overload. "The fact remains, the numbers are simply too high," said Söder. The nationally agreed soft lockdown had an effect, but also only a mild one.

In Bavaria, even after the partial lockdown that has been in place for weeks, the corona infections are almost nationwide at a very high and in many places worrying level. Almost 60,000 people are currently infected, more than ever before. In addition, there is a steadily increasing number of fatalities among those infected.

Söder also sees a need for action in schools. Bavaria will significantly limit the classroom lessons for older students from next Wednesday: From grade eight, the classes will be divided everywhere and switch to alternating lessons. In hotspots with an incidence of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week, the pupils from the eighth grade should switch completely to distance learning.

Small border traffic is restricted

The "small border traffic" is suspended - except for visits to first-degree relatives or commuters. All other people are not allowed to cross the border

The Bavarian state parliament still has to decide on the new measures on Tuesday. Then these are valid until January 5th.

The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) expressed the hope that there could be easing again in January. At least it was possible to curb the increase in the number of infections, he said. (Tsp, dpa, AFP)
